Indian Recruiters and Best Practices

·260 words·2 mins

I do not have anything against recruiters, Indian or not, as I am aware they are a necessary evil.

The only thing that I hate and that I especially see with Indian recruiters is the fact they do not reach out with the full picture when they contact you.

Typically, the message is along the lines of

Hi
We are looking for position for a role in city, country.
If you’re interested, please send me your updated CV at email@domain.com
Thanks

Now, leaving aside scenarios of shady companies that simply want to take your CV so they can find customers based on the CV (so they don’t actually have any clients to recruit for), it is not practical at all to keep asking basic details like:

  • is this role permanent or freelance?
  • what is the job description?
  • any indication of it being hybrid (x office days), fully remote or fully on-site?

I am not asking for a lot, just the bare specs so that I can decide whether or not the role would be worth looking into or not and I am not asking for compensation right off the bat (though it is appreciated if a ballpark budget number is known) as I do not know the job requirements.

Typically, it takes 2-3 messages for them to give me a clear picture.

This I’ve mostly seen with Indian recruiters. Other recruiters give you the essential facts from the start so that it is faster for everyone involved to make a decision.

Must be a cultural thing that I am missing.
